Parliament, Thursday, 1 August 2024 –The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms Khusela Sangoni Diko, congratulates Ms Mapi Mhlangu as she takes up her new role as editor-in-chief at Newzroom Afrika, today, 1 August 2024.
Ms Sangoni Diko welcomes the well-deserved appointment of Ms Mhlangu considering her vast experience in delivering compelling journalism and content creation.
Ms Mhlangu is no stranger to shattering glass ceilings, having also served as managing director and editor-in-chief at eSat and eNCA. Thus, she brings a wealth of experience to Newzroom Africa, which will ensure that the channel delivers quality news content through its commitment to journalistic excellence.
Ms Sangoni Diko said that the appointment of Ms Mhlangu reaffirms the strides being made towards a gender transformed media. “There ought to be a concerted effort in media, as well as communication and digital technology spaces, to amplify the voices of women in line with the recent Gender Links memorandum that women demand a voice in post-election plans,” she said.
She wished Ms Mhlangu well on her new role and wished all women of South Africa a reflective Women’s Month.
