Parliament, Thursday, 10 November 2022 – The Chairperson of the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus (MPWC), Ms Nkhensani Bilankulu, today expressed her utter condemnation of the distribution on social media of explicit photographs and a video depicting the Speaker of the Free State legislature, Ms Zanele Sifuba.

“This is clearly an invasion of her privacy. Those criminals who have been sharing and distributing these images and videos should be dealt with harshly. It is explicitly graphic images that should not be in the public space. This can be seen as another case of gender-based violence. Those sharing and distributing these images should be dealt with in terms of the Cybercrimes Act,” said the Chairperson.

“The MPWC condemns the circulation of this sex video by the former boyfriend of the Speaker of the Free State. This is absolutely uncalled for. Her private life should be respected,” said Ms Bilankulu.

Ms Bilankulu said, furthermore, extortion is a crime and she urged the authorities to deal decisively with the person alleged to have solicited a bribe in order to withhold making the images public. “Our women in South Africa cannot be treated in this manner.”
