Parliament, Thursday, 3 November 2022 – The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will this weekend from 4 to 6 November, conclude public hearings on the Housing Consumer Protection Bill. The Western Cape Province is the last to host public hearings on the Bill which has had nationwide public hearings in all the other provinces.

The three public hearing sessions will be held in Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality, the Cape Winelands District and finally the Garden Route District in George.

The Bill proposes these protections through the repeal of the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act of 1998 by providing protections for housing consumers, the registration of home builders and the continuance of the home warranty fund. It also sets out the framework to claim against the fund, as well as the continuance of the National Home Builders Registration Council as the National Home Building Regulatory Council.

The committee invites all individuals and interested stakeholders to come and make inputs on the Bill, to ensure the Bill is reflective of their aspirations. For ease of reference the programme can be accessed on the following link
